Chinese leaders to share Xi Jinping Thought

Kathmandu, September 19

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and Communist Party of China are jointly organising a symposium in Kathmandu from September 24 to 25 which will see the two sides sharing their experiences, besides signing a memorandum of understanding.

While the Chinese side will share, among other things, Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Nepali side will share NCP’s objectives after the unification and the country’s present status under the NCP leadership.

The Xi Jinping Thought is the political philosophy of Chinese President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping. The Xi Jinping Thought has been adopted as a guiding political and military ideology of the CPC, making Xi the third Chinese leader after Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping whose beliefs are embedded in the fundamental doctrines of the CPC, along with their names.

The symposium is being organised by the NCP’s school, organisation and international departments, and the CPC’s Central Party School, Organisation Department and International Liaison Department.

The symposium will be attended by around 200 NCP leaders and members of aforementioned departments, and 40 CPC members.

While an advance Chinese team has already arrived in Kathmandu for preparatory works, the CPC’s Director of the International Liaison Department Song Tao and other leaders are arriving on Saturday. Song is scheduled to inaugurate the programme along with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The programme will be chaired by Defence Minister and NCP School Department Chief Ishwor Pokhrel, while NCP Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address the event. From the Chinese side, three leaders of the respective departments will address the event.

NCP School Department Deputy Chief Beduram Bhusal said the event was being held after the CPC’s Central Party School proposed the same. “The Chinese side has proposed to share its experience in running the party and the government. We will also be sharing our experiences with them,” Bhusal said.

NCP International Department Deputy Chief Bishnu Rijal also said that the Chinese side had forwarded such a proposal quite a while ago, but they had not been able to hold the programme because of absence of respective departments in the NCP. “Now that our departments have been formed, we are organising the event,” he said, adding that besides the Xi JInping Thought, the Chinese side is expected share China’s political system and its role in global politics. Rijal said the two parties would sign an MoU related to boosting cooperation. He said the CPC had different MoUs with the then CPN-UML and the CPN-MC previously, so the new MoU would supersede the old ones.
